Editorial Policy

This page explains how we decide which tours to list, how we rank them, and how we keep listings accurate. It's a more detailed version of the summary on our About page.

Where listings come from

Every tour on Trailspot is pulled directly from Viator's live catalogue — we don't write or edit product listings ourselves, and we don't accept payment from operators to be featured or ranked higher.

How we rank tours

Within a city and category, we prioritise tours with strong genuine review counts and ratings, clear cancellation policies, and good value for the experience offered. Sort and filter controls on every listing page let you re-order by price, duration or rating yourself instead of relying on our default order.

Which destinations and categories we publish

We only publish a destination×category page once it has enough real, bookable tours to be genuinely useful — not a near-empty page with one loosely related result. If a category later drops below that threshold (for example, a tour operator pauses availability), the page isn't deleted outright — it's marked noindex and shows a "check back soon" notice instead of a broken page.

Keeping listings accurate

Prices, availability and ratings are re-synced from Viator on a schedule, not written once and left stale. If a tour is no longer offered, it's marked as unavailable rather than silently removed — so a page you've previously seen doesn't just vanish, but you also won't be shown a "Check availability" button for something you can no longer book.

Who writes the guides

Guides, reviews and comparisons are written by our Editorial Team. We'd rather credit a real team account than invent individual author personas with stock photos just to look more "human" — that would be misleading, not a trust signal.
